Having missed last year's FCN due to injury, I had to use this con to make up for 2 years' worth of FCN and well, it worked! Here's how I felt:

Happy Wasabi

I had an enormous amount of fun at this year's FCN. Highlights include:

- Making lots of sushi (sushi-grade fish was ordered for this)

- Watching the "Will It Blend" panel, wherein the presenters proceeded to both blend and freeze various items

- Making sushi for the second day in a row

- Getting to see/socialize with people I don't normally get to talk to because we're both busy at other cons

- Working security again, and doing badge check in higher traffic areas, so I got to chat with people who came by

What else was there to like? Ah yes, the bartenders! They absolutely loved us this year, and one of them even remembered me from 2 years ago. (and gave me grief about not making it last year, haha)

I have many more pictures that I can't post here, so instead I'll give the link, as usual: http://www.flickr.com/photos/dmuth/sets/72157626479309537/

Next con for me is Anthrocon! I'll see you all there. Stay safe.

Last night, I went down to Delaware for the Delaware Furbowl, run by [livejournal.com profile] kitt3ns. It was my first one ever, and I rather enjoyed it!

What some folks might not know is that I spent a good deal of time in league bowling when I was younger. 17 years, in fact! So naturally, I was happy at the chance to be able to bowl again, as well as hang out with other furries! One thing that was very cool about this event was that there were a few lanes set aside for "serious bowlers". I camped out on those lanes, along with [livejournal.com profile] whitefeet, Greywolf, Delray(?), and a couple of other folks.

<-- Casual Bowlers | Serious Bowlers --> Kojac Racer in his white Crux fursuit Strike!

I bowled 3 games in total, and shot: 118, 158, 187.

The lanes were really dry, which caused our balls to hook rather sharply in the last 5 feet of the lane. Once I got used to this, I was able to start making more strikes and spares, and did better in each subsequent game. I could have broken 200 in the last game had I not choked in the 10th frame. :-P

I remember after the event, some of us went to Wawa for sandwiches. I was still wearing my tail, and a couple of non-furries pointed to me and yelled, "Hey! Chester Cheetah!" Man, everyone thinks I'm a cheetah.

I very much would like to attend future Furbowls, the big challenge for me is just securing transportation down there and back, since I do not currently own a car. Trains are less viable for me for this event, since having to lug a 16 pound bowling ball around on the train is not fun.

The rest of my photos can be found here, but I'll leave you all with this final group shot:

So as folks may have read, I did in fact fursuit for the first time at FurFright.

Saturday night while [livejournal.com profile] pkitty1, myself, and some other folks were having a few drinks, the topic of myself and fursuiting came up. I somehow was persuaded by Captain Morgan other folks in the room to put on the head and paws of Manik's cheetah fursuit and then walked around con space for about half an hour. The partial actually went pretty well with the black overcoat I wore with it, and it gave me the opportunity to "flash" my conbadges to folks that I knew. (and in many cases surprise them, as was the case with [livejournal.com profile] protocollie!)

Here's the proof:

Sweating inside the partial wasn't too bad, but I definitely couldn't wear the suit for an excessive amount of time. I unfortunately had issues with the paws, since they were basically giant slippers, I couldn't easily put my orthotic shoe inserts in them, and that did a number on my feet. (maybe I should shuffle more next time?)

Visibility was also very poor inside the fursuit head. Specifically, I was told that visibility in that head was particularly bad compared to other suits. Unfortunately, I don't have any experience with other fursuits to compare that against. :-P

I'll have to see if it's feasible for a fursuit maker to "build" a set of paws around a spare pair of shoes when I commission should I decide to commission a leopard cheetah cheopard fursuit at some point.

If anyone can recommend any good fursuit builders, BTW, feel free to do so in the comments.

Folks,

The organizers of First Friday Main Line in Ardmore recently approached me, knowing of my involvement in the furry fandom, and asked if any fursuiters would be interested in performing at First Friday in Ardmore on Friday October 2nd, between 7 and 10 PM. This will be a Halloween-themed First Friday Main Line, and they feel that having fursuiters around would add to the atmosphere.

The First Friday Main Line website is at http://www.firstfridaymainline.com/. According to the website, FFML is a non-profit, 501C3, community organization founded in 2006 by the area’s business and cultural leaders. The Mission of FFML is to bring Art to the Main Line community by creating opportunities to experience Art in everyday life while creating a regional spotlight for a diverse body of talented Artists, Musicians, and Performers.

They have kindly offered a secure changing room where valuables may be stored and water will be provided. If anyone needs crash space that night, please let me know.

If you're interested in attending, please RSVP with me so that I may have an accurate head count to give to the FFML organizers. Non-fursuiters are welcome to attend as well.

Thanks!

Let it never be said that JetBlue doesn't have a sense of humor:

I guess that means we'll need to check our fursuits?

I had a pretty busy Memorial Day weekend.

First, [livejournal.com profile] omnibahumut came by on Friday night. We hung out and watched some TV shows. The usual.

I spent Saturday afternoon cleaning up the apartment [Edit: with some help from Omni!] so that we could have some friends over the evening:

Wag, Finnish Fox and Kojac

I spent Sunday afternoon cleaning up the fur that was shed. :-P Then I spent some time that evening playing Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People. I never realized just how much of a jerk Strong Bad was. Also, I could have done without seeing Homestar Runner naked, kthx.

On Monday morning, [livejournal.com profile] mongologue came by and we spent most of the day taking care of Anthrocon business and testing out the registration system that I have been working on. I got some good feedback for the system and was generally pleased to see that my development efforts have been on the right track.

It sucks that I missed Eurofurence this past weekend, but I'm please that others who went had a good time. Oh, and if anyone saw a blue hippo plushie at the con, I totally don't know anything about that. Honest!

I found this video which shows some ways that fursuiters can communicate while in suit.

I'm not sure if these are "standard" hand signals, but some of them seem pretty intuitive, such that spectators might be able to pick up on them.
