The good news is that I made the right choice by hiring an accountant this year. I needed professional help for my taxes.

The bad news is just how much I owe, thanks to Capital Gains. Let me put it this way: I probably just financed some auditor's weekend party, complete with FREE HOOKERS AND COCAINE!

I hope you're not expecting sympathy because you had capital GAINS.

Eh, that's the rub. I came out ahead, but it still sucks getting a nasty surprise like this. And esppecially to this magnitude.

I am so with you on this - I did my own (again) this year, and when I went to file my copies away, started noticing errors. And more errors. There was an article in the paper about itemized deductions that pointed out another error.

I gave up and got an accountant. And, well, I think your auditor-friend is throwing his weekend party on his new boat.

This is why I'm thankful that my mom is an accountant, I've never had to touch my taxes. Sucks to hear that you owe so much this yeah :/

Wow, they actually have a version for OS/X. I'm impressed.

Regardless, I feel way more comfortable about having a human handle my taxes. For example, I now know why I have should set the number of allowances on my W-4 to zero instead of 1.

> I take it setting your W-4 allowances to zero is designed to get you a larger
> refund, or in this year's case, reduce what you owe?

Yes. It increases the amount withheld.

I calculated the interest that I made on what I owed, and it was a couple of bottles of wine. Not worth it.
