Seen in Consumer Health Digest, Issue #05-30:
Sir Richard Doll (1912-2005), who achieved worldwide impact by discovering and publicizing the relationship between smoking and lung cancer, died July 24 at the age of 92. During the 1970s, he debunked bogus claims that fluoridation causes cancer and co-authored a report recommending the addition of that fluoride to British water. He also studied relationships between low-level radiation and cancer; alcohol intake and breast cancer; and vitamin D supplementation and fracture prevention in the elderly.

Wow. What a guy.
