Depending on which source you believe, the name comes from: - Reviving bread "lost" to staleness (eh, boring) - The dish is traditionally served on "Lost Monday," the first Monday following Epiphany. The day commemorates the fact that the Magi would not tell Herod the location of Christ (he was "lost") - More pragmatically, civil servants didn't work on that Monday and thus those were wages "lost"
