How to get Google Talk to work with GAIM
Aug. 24th, 2005 10:17 amGoogle has finally released it's own chat service: http://talk.google.com/. It uses the Jabber protocol, but is not interconnected to the other Jabber servers, so as to cut down on abuse.
If you don't want to download their client, here's how to connect in GAIM:
1. Go to add a new account, choose the "Jabber" protocol
2. Enter the username of your Gmail account as the screen name. (For me, it is "doug.muth")
3. Enter "gmail.com" for the server.
4. Enter your Gmail password in the password field
5. Make sure the checkbox for TLS is checked
6. Enter "talk.google.com" for the Connect Server.
Save your settings, and that's it! I'm on now as "doug.muth@gmail.com". Hope to be hearing from y'all!
