WikiFur now supports birthday years

So, I was tooling around on WikiFur last night, and with it being my birthday, I figured that my entry on WikiFur should list my birthyear in a category similar to what WikiPedia does. Since there was no existing category system on WikiFur for birth years and death years, I pinged greenreaper in IM and we kicked around some ideas. Then I searched for the string "born" and "died" over all of WikiFur and started creating categories en masse.

The end result:
- WikiFur Births by year
- WikiFur Deaths by year

This is just a start, though. We're hoping that from here on, things listed on WikiFur can start having dates associated with them. Perhaps at some point in the future we'll be able to turn it into a wiki-based timeline of the furry fandom. Wouldn't that be cool!


Oh, and speaking of my birthday, furahi made a version of my icon (seen with this post) that has me with gray hair. :-) Thanks for the hookup, dude!

Ya know that is a very intresting wiki stuff..
Allmost kind of sad reading through the deaths..might want to add some others furs that I know that died recently. One Brazillian fur as well..

What really confuses me is that people who give legal names seem to be alphabetized under their first names -- Candy Dewalt, for example, is filed under C, and presumably Sam Conway is/would be filed under S. That's no less silly than filing a separate Uncle Kage entry for him under U.

That's correct. The reason being is that MediaWiki doesn't just keep track of people, it also keeps track of events, places, ideas, groups, etc.

To add in additional logic to have "special treatment" for peoples' realnames would break the simplicity of it being a Wiki. :-(

Actually, I wish to correct myself! I poked around on WikiPedia, and saw that names ARE being sorted by last name (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:1911_births). I'll see if I can figure out how to make this happen on WikiFur.
