I've been meaning to finish up my con report for awhile, and I finally have. Enjoy!

Thursday

Phil and I arrived around 11 AM and were able to get checked in right away. The hotel was literally EMPTY, so we caught a shuttle over to the mall and walked around for a few hours. Caught the shuttle back to the hotel and napped for a bit. [livejournal.com profile] blackfeather, who was rooming with us, showed up a little later, and we all tried napping for a bit, with all the traveling that day.

Later we walked around the hotel for a bit, and I remember bumping into [livejournal.com profile] glaide (with his BOOM STICK :-), [livejournal.com profile] entropicana (Hiker), and [livejournal.com profile] maanerud (Adelor). I bumped into [livejournal.com profile] rigelkitty (an unexpected surprise!) as well. Later, I attended the mixer and watched Groat's kids go Cornholio on on the candy corn. I also met a nice fur by the name of Benjie, it was his first con. :-)

Friday

I was actually somewhat nervous most of today. Lander ([livejournal.com profile] chrislander) was to be arriving later today. I knew him online for several months, and knew that he would be arriving sometime during the day, but not when.

Anyway, I was woken up by a cellphone call from Ch'Marr! Seems that he was able to make it out the con, and wanted to say hi. :-) After I actually got up and made it out, I bumped into none other than Algernon ([livejournal.com profile] zenmouse) in the main lobby, seems he was able to make it out to the con, too! He needed a room, so I put him and Ch'Marr in touch with each other and much happiness ensued. :-)

In the afternoon, I met Kip Fox, and tagged along with him to the airport where we picked up Fox Palmer. Upon returning to the hotel, we were walking arond, and I heard someone call my name. I turned around, and Lander was just... standing there! So after hugging him and saying hello, we hung out for a bit. Along the way, I met the very nice Skip Ruddertail ([livejournal.com profile] skiprudder) who was rooming with Lander, hooked up with Hiker, and we grabbed some dinner.

Saturday

Got up and went straight to a panel that Kagemushi was hosting called, "Science, Pseudo-science, and outright crap!". I still remember his opening line: "If you believe in homeopathy, GET OUT!". :-) The panel was very informative, there was talking about the science (or lack thereof) behind homeopathy, as well as some debunking of the "Sacharin causes cancer" myth, and other things. I'm glad I went.

From there, I grabbed some lunch, hooked up with Skip and a couple of other furs (can't remember their names offhand), and walked around the mall for a bit. On the way back, Ch'Marr gave me a call and asked if I'd help him with his bodypainting. Turned out that he was in the room right next me the whole time! So I just opened up the door between the rooms and walked right over. :-)

After getting back and helping him with painting his spots, I became very sleepy and napped for an hour or so. I then wandered downstairs and caught the end of the charity auction, watching a bidding war over a giant scroll with a picture of a cheetah on it.

Afterward, Skip, Lander, Benjie, and myself stepped out for dinner, settling on a TGI Fridays. Their beer was a little less expensive than the hotel's beer. :-) We got back and watched the movie Ice Age. We came to the conclusion that the 3 main characters are gay. Lines like "You can't have one of your own, so you decided to adopt!" proved this.

Sunday

Slept in kinda late this morning. I got up and wandered to the dealers room where I talked with Taurin Fox about getting a commission done of my character. Then I hooked up with Skip and we got some lunch in the mall and hung out for a bit. The con was winding down at this point, so there was less and less to do.

I went to the closing ceremonies and then saw Skip off, as he had to leave for home. I hung out with Lander for a bit, then saw him off. I visited Taurin Fox and Cray Fox and got to see Taurin finish up the picture of me. I was VERY happy with it. :-) (I'll post it seperately) I had dinner with the foxes and they introduced me to the Dragonball Z cartoon. Interesting cartoon indeed.

I went to the Dead Dog Party later that night. It was my first ever party experience with hard liquor, and I drank quite a bit. I drank more than I should have, in fact. I ended up getting very drunk, and that sucked a whole lot. I think I'll just avoid the stuff in the future.

Monday

I woke up late this morning. It was a small miracle that I didn't have a hangover. Apparently Blackfeather just asked the hotel if we could check out later, and they said sure. So we didn't have to leave our room until 2 PM, which was nice.

Got showered and breakfast, checked out, and then Phil and I departed to the airport. The ride back was a whole lot nicer, as we did a rideshare which happened to be in a limo. :-) We got to the airport 2 hours before our flight departed, but there wasn't much of a line this time, so we just breezed through, and found ourselves with some time to kill. The trip home was fairly uneventful.

Misc

The con kicked ass. I wanted to go to more panels. Maybe next year.

I made an Etherkiller a few weeks before the con and brought it along, coiled in a loop and tied to my belt like a whip. Many furs found it amusing. I showed it to the folks at the Plan 9 table, and they gave me a discount!

I got to see many other furs, too. [livejournal.com profile] daveqat, Duncan, and Takaza come to mind. I got to see Fennec again. I got to see the "other" Tigerwolf (http://www.tigerden.com/) and meet Puma for the first time.

If anyone is curious, this is how I looked at the con. I was wearing my tail at the time, but it just didn't happen to show up in that pic.

Isn't the Escher-esque design of Woodfield Mall entertaining?

Got up and went straight to a panel that Kagemushi was hosting called, "Science, Pseudo-science, and outright crap!".

You know, I didn't get to a single panel this year (gee, I wonder why...) but this is the one I probably would have enjoyed the most. Ah well.

Ch'Marr gave me a call and asked if I'd help him with his bodypainting.

Ah, so maybe you can answer the question that was on the minds of many: Just how far up did those spots go, anyway? :-) (Ahem. Mrrrrrrr.)

Apparently Blackfeather just asked the hotel if we could check out later, and they said sure.

Yeah, the Hyatt was cool like that. They were pretty easy to work with as con hotels go and I'm glad we're headed back there next year.

I made an Etherkiller a few weeks before the con and brought it along, coiled in a loop and tied to my belt like a whip. Many furs found it amusing.

Believe me, I had some ideas for it. One of our laptops went belly-up during setup and it would have been entertaining to see what happened if we had applied the Etherkiller to it. Sadly, I'm too damned responsible and worried about fire hazards and frying a perfectly good Ethernet card. Pity.

I'm glad you had a good time, and hopefully we'll see you there again next year. I will, of course, be at Anthrocon, and I will be completely at your disposal there (I believe The Esteemed Cockroach has other plans for Takaza, as my wuff might have mentioned to you...)
