Way back in about 1988 or so, I got a Nintendo Entertainment System for Christmas. I also got a few games that Christmas. One was the really awesome Legend of Zelda, which I still own. One of the other not-so-awesome games that I got was Star Voyager. This POS game had you flying around the cosmos, trying to fight off Bob Sagets aliens that were hell bent on wiping you out.

I found the game hard to understand, hard to play, and impossible to win, no matter how much time I spent on strategy and weapons. It seems that I was not alone, for someone else went to the time and trouble to do a review on the game:

It's amazing how much cooler the game gets when clips from Spaceballs are thrown in, along with the theme music from Benny Hill. And, having played the game extensively, everything the reviewer says about it is 100% true.

One thing the reviewer did leave out was the "Nova Bomb". This item, when acquired, will supposedly let you wipe out an entire Bob Saget alien fleet. The bad news is that you were never told how to actually use it. All you were given was a cryptic message that said, "Activate Nova Bomb with controller 2". No additional details were given, and I never did figure out how to use that damn thing...

Just a few quick notes:

- While I was home on Christmas eve, I got to take a nice walk for the exercise. I did somewhere between 4 and 5 miles in a single walk. I managed to make it all the way out to Trexlertown and check up on the status of my old Eagle Scout project, which was still in place.

- The Glenfiddich went over really well at the Christmas Eve family dinner.

- During the mandatory singing after dinner, I found that inserting the word "porn" every third word or so made the songs much more fun to sing. Had my aunt been sitting next to me, she would have disapproved. However, it seems that someone switched around the seat assignments when nobody was looking to make this into a non-issue.

- Even though I told everyone that I wasn't doing presents, my parents bought me a few presents anyway. As in previous years, I received mostly utilitarian items: a scented candle, a corkscrew, wooden matches for the scented candle, chapstick, and microwaveable popcorn.

[Edit: Oh yeah, I put gas in my car for the first time since August! Yeah, I think selling my car makes more and more sense...]

At this point, I'm back home safely. Back to work tomorrow!
