Ahh but there is a management shakeup in the Windows division as well as the slip. It was announced only days after the slip. Now call me a pessimist but doing a shakeup at this critical juncture of Vista is just plain stupid. Putting new management in place is going to actually slow things down not speed them up until they get a handle on what needs to be fixed.
I’ve been using vista since early Alpha. By and large it’s going to be a good OS that is worlds better above XP. But their leadership needs to stop dicking around at this point.

It's not like if it'd come out in late 2006 that it'd actually get on most of the holiday computers. XP was out in late 2001 and most new computers still shipped with 98 or 2k for the holiday season. So yeah, it's bad that it slipped, but people are really fricking deluding themselves that people would start buying new computers with Vista right away. They won't.
