Oh. Wait.

Maybe not.

Allegations are already surfacing that the poll was rigged:

Now the important thing here is that the poll may have not been intentionally rigged. It may just be a crappy poll. But I think the post illustrates how the wording of polls and the placement of questions within each poll can influence the answers. Something to think about.

1. 502 is not a high enough number to base a poll on.
2. unless data is shared revealing what 'randomly selected adults nationwide' it cannot be taken as a good sampling of the nation. urban, suburban, towns within cities, state capitals, rural, towns, etc. all have vastly differant groups. the poll is far too broad.

3. not all of the information regarding poll questions was shared.

How should I know? I have zero experience with public opinion polls that relate to politics. :-P

Oh, almost all opinion polls are pretty poor. In reality the margine of error is some where between 15% to 30% (that means if the numbers are less 30% to 60% apart from each other, they are statisticly indentical). Online polls are even worse as there are always people voting a few thousand times.

The moral is, unless the numbers are REALLY far apart (and they never are) all polls are meaning less.
