4 Degrees of separation
May. 11th, 2002 01:43 pmJust last night, I sent off an activation code to
unciaa, so he could start up his own journal. After viewing his jounral, just out of curiossity, I clicked on the link for his country, Slovenia, to see if any other people had journals from there. Sure enough, I got like 18 matches. So, I looked through them, and found a user named
mysticat.
Wondering if she might be furry, I read through her journal and learned this wasn't really the case. Then, out of curiosity, I decided to see where her friends were located, were they in Europe, or scattered across the globe? One guy lived in the UK, another lived in North Carolina, then I discovered that
girlafraid lives right here in Philly.
So, I looked through her list of friends and noticed that one of them was none other than
sirsyko, who in turn is the cousin of
randomzen, who sits next to me in the office at where I work.
Let's count the degrees of seperation between two of my friends, who happen to reside on different continents:
Hey... not bad, 4 degrees in total. That's much better than the average of 6. Okay, so I cheated a little, since Unciaa doesn't actually know Mysticat, but I was able to get from one to the other based on something they have in common.
I love the Internet. :-)
