Had a minor setback at the gym tonight, my knee started hurting again while on the treadmill. I think I may have overdid it with that 30 block hike on Sunday. Time to get out the ice and Advil again.
Oh well, can't make a leopard omelette without breaking a few rosettes, I guess.

Date: 2006-08-24 03:42 pm (UTC)As Dr. K explained, normal walking causes the kneecaps to move around slightly, while stairs and elipticals do this moreso. What I had been doing at the gym was the eliptical on a resistance level of between 4 and 8 for 35 minutes straight. The moving around of my kneecap caused fluid to build up behind them which caused them to move around move and irritate the muscle.
The neoprene braces that I currently wear prevent the kneecap from moving, and I was told to do only walking, as that would also rehab the muscle. (I'm guessing I overdid the walking, though, hence the "oops" part)
The other way to treat what I have is to rest the knee, and Dr. K recommended against that. If it still hurts in a couple of weeks, I'll go see him again.
