I can't help but wonder if they got inundated with a torrent of responses to their puzzle after posting to Slashdot and haven't been able to keep up with them.

I'm sure they had to deal with a lot of traffic from it, but I'm suspecting that they submitted it themselves for that reason. Prior to using slashdot, all they had was like a 2 or 3 sentence post on craigslist.
