The secret word of the day is: Bursitis

I had a fairly eventful (and painful) day today. First order of business was heading over to Bryn Mawr Hospital to get an X-Ray done. Got the X-Ray, got the print, then called the PAWdiatrist, Dr. S, for an appointment. Great, he can see me at 2:15!
I went home, and since I brought my laptop home for a change, did some work from home for a few hours. I had lunch, then headed out to see Dr. S!
Dr. S looked at my X-Rays and said, "uh, your foot doesn't look broken". So he examined the foot, looked at my shoes, and asked me some questions about the history of the problem. He explained that what I presently have is very likely bursitis. Seems that there are little sacks of fluid underneath the metatarsal bones in the feet, that cushion the bones so they don't slam against the ground. Kind of like paw pads for a feline. Anyway, it seems that one of mine got irritated from overuse, and just got worse and worse.
The treatment consists of a few things:
- Buying a higher quality ($20 USD) pair of insoles from a shoe store.
- Taking anti-inflammatory drugs to help the foot heal.
- Icing up the foot on an as-needed basis.
