How binary numbers work

For those who are unclear how binary/base-2 numbers work, how "bits" are added, and the like, some guy made this neat little video that shows had numbers are represented in base-2 systems, how addition works, and what happens when the number computed exceeds the number of bits:

Enjoy!

That would be a great device for a computer architecture professor to have. In my intro class a couple of years ago, there was quite a bit of class time wasted with students asking questions about this sort of adder xP
Would probably help clear up initial doubt regarding two's complement form for negative numbers :D A few subtractions on that thing, and I bet it would all make sense to a class!

This is both informative and charming. Thanks.

I so want one of these.

All I could imagine when they got to the overflow part was that they should've had a part to keep a carry bit!

This guy is WAYYYY off. Binary is the language of bits. Bits of course are little CG globes that fly around us and, in a cool computerized voice, answer everything YES or NO.

Did the guy NOT see TRON?

Very cool. The fact that it's all been redone as a wooden contraption even moreso.

Neat machine. Now to build one for binary multiplication :3 .

That's rather neat indeed!

And done in wood! so much the better!

Thanks for posting that vid!

Believe it or not, I was watching speedruns of Marble Madness on YouTube, and this video shows up under "related videos".

Does it blend?
