The Doubletree Hotel is sold out of king- and double-bed rooms. The only rooms that are left are suites. Although these have foldout sofabeds in the parlor and are very comfortable, some folks may not want something that big. We are working on getting a small block of double rooms at the Courtyard by Marriott across the street from the convention center. We do not yet know how many we are going to be able to get or at what rate, but we are negotiating vigorously. Watch this space for updates!

In your negotiations please inquire what to do with people, like myself, who got themselves rooms at the courtyard, and would dearly, dearly love to have their current reservation shifted over to convention rates.

Telling the hotel about that in advance will discourage them from giving a much lower rate; they'll see the money lost to people who reserved at higher rates.

The usual solution is to wait until the new rates are available, make a new reservation and cancel the old one.

I have been aware, as some of you above, that there is and has been even from our first-year in Pittsburgh those who went to Overflow at the Mariott at their own choice, over the Doubletree official overflow hotel. I would think they are aware of the good business and good will the furries bring during AC weekend, surely they haven't been "blind" to it all. I suspect negotiations will be succesful. Go get ém Giza!

If you do get the con rate for the Mariott, will they have the same first night charged policy even if you cancel that the Westin and Doubletree have?

We believe that they would prefer the guaranteed business we would bring. In past years they've filled up well simply on people willing to pay the rack rate, but with the current economic climate, they're less likely to have full occupation.

They're a business, and they'll make business decisions to maximize their profit. Can't blame them either way, but we certainly hope they'll work with us.
