Some weird screen shots
Sep. 14th, 2010 09:34 pmI've been seeing the darndest things lately, and I need to share them.
First thing is this ad:

It's less than funny, since Philadelphia recently declared war on cupcakes. Oh, and the post it's from has hippos!
Then I decided to rent a car from AVIS so that I could drive out to Western PA Furry Weekend in October. Simple enough, but wait, what's this? $931.47 to rent a Prius for 3 days?

Apparently so.
And finally, this winner is from a random auction on eBay:

Um, yeah. The seller is one JS Powersports. I uh, don't think I'll be buying anything from them like, ever. Threatening potential customers is usually where I draw the line. (And good luck with those jurisdiction issues)
I had no plans to find any of those stuff, it just came across my screen in the course of normal web browsing. Oh well.

Date: 2010-09-15 05:00 am (UTC)What I find sad about the AVIS price list is that the pretentious Hummer is less than 1/3 the cost of the Prius to rent.
I'd never deal with a seller who I found threatening. There are enough pitfalls to using ebay as it is.

Date: 2010-09-15 05:19 am (UTC)All of their policies are unusually generous! Prices are very low, they'll match prices, and they'll go the extra mile to satisfy the customer PROVIDED the customer actually contacts them.
That's the key here. If you got a bad item, and it meets the criteria for a return or exchange, then contact the company. They'll make it right.
If you don't even try, well, then you're being punished for being stupid.
There are a few companies out there that punish their customers for being stupid. All of them are doing exceptionally well, making lots of money. And by putting the rules out there, plain and painful, if anyone cries about it, everyone will laugh at them for being stupid.
But yes, good luck with jurisdiction and suing someone. That should be amusing to watch?

Date: 2010-09-17 11:52 pm (UTC)I didn't even get that far.
I zeroed in straight on the part in red which basically says "if we think you wronged us, we'll sue you". And for 4-figures, likely over a 2-figure purchase.
Doing business with them just ain't worth the risk to me.
