Friday Five
Aug. 29th, 2003 03:29 pmHere is this week's Friday Five:
1. Are you going to school this year?
No.
2. If yes, where are you going (high school, college, etc.)? If no, when did you graduate?
I graduated from Emmaus High School in 1996 and from Allentown Business School in 1998, with an Associate Degree in Network Technology.
3. What are/were your favorite school subjects?
In high school, I loved my computer sceience classes, mostly because I would finish the assignments and then screw off for the next 30 minutes. :-)
4. What are/were your least favorite school subjects?
I didn't have least favorite subjects as much as I had least favorite teachers. If the teacher wasn't a complete jerk and made the subject interesting, then great! If, on the other paw, the teacher was a pompus jerk who didn't have any communication skills and just stood up there for 45 minutes and rambled, I would quickly get bored and end up disliking the class.
5. Have you ever had a favorite teacher? Why was he/she a favorite?
That would most definitely be Mr. Tom Husser, who taught a social studies class of mine one year. See, I had a lot of problems as a kid. I was overweight, awkward, didn't get along with my parents too well, and didn't do well in school. Add into things that I would get teased by other kids, and that was just too much for me to handle.
So, this class that I was in, there were a number of jerkwads in it, and I got teased quite a bit. At some point, Mr. Husser noticed that these clowns were causing me quite a bit of distress, so he stepped in. Not a physical intervention, but rather he contacted the Assistant Principal on my behalf, and at some point, the Assistant Principal got a hold of each of the kids involved. I'm not sure what he told them, but the harassment and teasing pretty much stopped. That meant a lot to me. After that, Mr. Husser approached me privately, and told me that if those kids tried anything during the following year, that I should feel free to call on him for help, even if I'm not in any of his classes. That was awfully kind of him, and not something I'll easily forget. *sniffle*
Feh, now I feel kinda depressed after bringing up all of those memories. I think I'm gonna go read Slashdot for a bit...
