Shameless bragging
Dec. 23rd, 2003 10:03 pmIn other news, I discovered today that I was quoted on page 232 of the book Net Crimes and Misdemeanors, by Jayne Hitchcock. The subject in question was the Sircam worm which was making the rounds a few years ago. Coolness!
In other neat news, this article in Network World Fusion lists "The 50 Most Powerful People In Networking". Looking down this list, you see people you'd expect to see on there, like the CEO of Cisco, Bill Gates, Steve "Monkey Boy" Ballmer, etc. Getting down to the bottom though, #49 turns out to be someone rather unexpected: Scott Hazen-Mueller, the Chair of CAUCE. Rather than go on about Scott, I'll just quote the article:
I've known Scott since like, 1996 or 1997 or thereabouts, and I think it's pretty nifty that he's finally being recognized outside of the anti-spam community for some of the hard work that he's put in for CAUCE, as well as spam.abuse.net.
That's it for now. Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas!

By day, Mueller is a senior systems administrator for California State University. By night, as CAUCE chair, he is one of the superheroes of the anti-spam movement. CAUCE, which claims 30,000 members, lobbies Congress (and state congresses) on behalf of the folks on the receiving end of spam. It does so via analysis and position papers on pending legislation, letters to elected officials, coordination with other anti-spam groups and, at times, asked-for advice - such as participation in the Federal Trade Commission's three-day anti-spam workshop held in April.
