Looks like The Adam's Mark is closing

I just found out about this less than an hour ago. The hotel did not tell us in advance that this is going to happen.

No, there's no need to inform anyone else on the Board. I have sent the necessarily e-mails, and it's not like our contacts at The Adam's Mark are going to be up at this hour.

Please do not ask us what we're going to do, we don't know yet. When we do, it will be announced on our website.

Wow. Just wow.

I can only imagine what you and the rest of the board of Anthrocon are going through right now. While it is not my place to speak for Midwest FurFest, if there's anything at all that we (or at least [livejournal.com profile] takaza and I) can do to help, you know we're here for you.

I assume the Adam's Mark Corporation is paying for the costs of relocating the con to avoid a breach of contract lawsuit?

The Adam's Mark in Kansas City was bought out by Clarion, I believe.

The issue previously about the city name on where dealers send payments shouldn't matter, as long as the zip code is correct. That's what the post office will sort by. From there, the carriers will take care of you.

Well... That's unfortunate. I hope whatever you guys decide to do next goes well. I really enjoyed going to Anthrocon this year, and I still look forward to next year's. I just hope the relocation isn't far off.

We should not fear the future, yet embrace it. I ask that you keep a level head and stay calm during negtiations or what not with the Adam's Mark staff about this.

I for one trust you and the rest of the board to do what is best, and whatever that result may be we should all stand behind you.

Thats a screwball for you.
Best of luck to you in settling this all out!

Maybe that move to Pittsburg might be sooner then expect.

"Wow" is the word that best describes my thoughts on this so far. It's so sudden that something like this has happened, granted of course that we don't know if it's completely true as of yet or not but if it is it's a bit shocking still. It's sad too as I liked the Adam's Mark. Well, good luck with getting all this settled. I'm confident that you guys will get all this worked out alright.

Looks like you guys might have to move AC to that other hotel in Pittsburg sooner than you originally planned. Hopefully everything will work out. I've been reading about the closure all over LJ.

Ooop! And I've already bought my plane tickets. I hope wherever Anthrocon moves to, it'll still be held on the same weekend!

As a long time Staffer and volunteer for AC, I know you and Kage and the rest of the board are definitely on top of this.

I have my hopes and suspicions that we will likely still have a guarantee or stay in the physical hotel space, even if it isn't any longer the Adams Mark per se.

Same per offers above. If a 'roo can help out in any way, let me know.

From the news story:

They're not saying much, except that the 515-room hotel has been sold to the Target Corporation.

Cool, the world's first 15-story Target! "3rd Floor, Ladies' Lingerie... 4th Floor, Transvestite Scientists... 5th Floor, Some Dude In A Kitsune Costume...."

Yes, we figured some folks had already made travel plans, and we'll keep that in mind. :-)

The news this morning said the hotel's being torn down. Target just wanted the land, not the building on it.
