Already posted by [livejournal.com profile] unclekage, but I might as well repeat it here (since I won't have much else to say today...)

I can confirm at this time that the Adams Mark will be shutting down operations within the next 60 days. Any reservations made there are canceled. If you have made a deposit, it will be returned to you. If there are any issues with the hotel, please contact them directly. We have no connection with them at this time and cannot assist you.

As for Anthrocon, we are in contact with other venues in the area. They are not as desireable, and we may be more cramped than ever, but four walls are better than no walls. Currently we have an offer from the Wyndham Franklin Plaza in Philadelphia, and are working to get the space and rooms at the same rate that the Adams Mark contract specified. Our aim is to make the transition as painless and transparent to our membership as possible so that nobody has to change any travel or vacation plans.

Please accept our assurance that we are doing everything in our power to make sure that Anthrocon 2005 proceeds as planned, and that none of our membership suffers any undue inconvenience.

Anthrocon, Inc. also wishes to extend a heartfelt thank-you to the staff of the Adams Mark Philadelphia who have been so helpful to us over the past four years, and in particular "Magic Tom" Hughsted, Penny Blumenthal, and the wonderful hotel operator Bobbie. All three of these wonderful people are to lose their jobs on January 30, and we wish them all the best.

Since The Adam's Mark is a short drive from where I live, I also intend to visit them one last time before they close, and take a boatload of pictures, which I will post on my website. I have many happy memories of that hotel, and I'm sure that others do as well.

fc was first hosted at the marriott in san mateo, right next to the freeway.  the year before fc, the hotel was a dunfey.  it was the only one nearby, very elegant, very old, and very nice to have around.  it was absolutely terrible to see it go, and since the marriott was going to redo the entire hotel, they sold off all the furniture and art and decorations and rugs and everything, and we snagged some pieces of the place- two desks($25) and six extremely nice chairs($10).

with a memory as terrible as mine, this helps me remember the place :)

For the record, the first FC wasn't at the San Mateo Marriott, but rather the (Hilton?) hotel in Santa Clara that's attached to the Convention Center. I liked that place... but I also liked the Marriott and FC's current hotel, the SJ Doubletree.

The Marriott was nice, although it could be a rather confusing maze at times...
