Whee, more personal stuff
Dec. 27th, 2004 07:13 pmIt's been about a month since I wrote anything about myself, so I figured I'd get into that. Here we go!
- Thanksgiving. I went up to see my parents, and I took them up a LinkSys WRT54G router for my parents, who finally got DSL. I set it up at their place, locked down their wireless network, and can now use my Powerbook when I visit them. It makes visits a whole lot cooler, because I can get online, talk with people, etc., and not have to feel pressured to rush back home so I can check tons of e-mail that might be waiting for me.
- Christmas. I visited my parents again for that. Random things I got included: A framed picture of this cheetah hand painting from my aunt (who knows NOTHING about furry, just that I like big cats), one of those plastic "pasta containers" full of pasta and sauce, and one of those bags that you can stuff plastic bags in and pull them out the bottom for later reuse. Ah, simple things for simple minds. :-)
- Work. Work has kept me VERY busy lately. We're in the QA phase of a fairly big project, and I've been working a ton of hours to stay on top of things. I hope it pays off when we hit our release date. I could really use a break.
- My website - I've been moving my content over to Mambo as my schedule permits, and it's been mostly going okay. I've hit some snags, but they were mostly from me not fully understanding certain parts of Mambo. I hope to have most of the content over to the new site by the New Year, at which point I will be "throwing the switch" in DNS, so to speak.
- Anthrocon stuff - There's been a fair bit of this, too. Mostly because of the hotel issue that came up at the beginning of the month. The load is starting to drop off, however. Oh, and
unclekage wrote this rant about Armchair Conchairs. You know, the sort of people who gripe in public because we won't set aside an elevator JUST for the dealers. It's a good read and explains the frustrations of running a con.
- Sleep - I've been trying to get more of this lately. However, I've also been trying to be in work by 9 AM this morning. Melatonin has been a help, as has really sleeping in on the weekends. I need to work on this, though.

Date: 2004-12-28 01:50 am (UTC)You were there the year I worked art show staff at MFF. From that weekend forward, I have had a HUGE problem with the artists, and refuse to work for any other con, ever again. Man, most of those artists are REALLY rude and egotistical, and were all up in my face when I was there specifically to help THEM out. I have no idea what the hoo-hoo their problems were, but the majority were treating us like like we were commoners, and they were noblemen. It was rediculous.
Reality Check:
Folks, con staff doesn't get paid to put up with your rude bullshit. They're not Taco Bell employees, they're volenteers. Also, keep in mind that most likely, YOU'RE the one getting paid less than minimum wage per hour to put as much time as you do into your artwork. You're not the queen of sheeba, and, lets face it -- you draw animals with overgrown human penises and five sets of tits. Get the fuck over yourselves.

Date: 2004-12-28 03:52 am (UTC)Yeah really, I agree. Get off your fucking high horse, people! It's because of people like US buying your "cock" that you make money at cons. I can't believe the attitude some artists have. Like they demand "respect" because they're popular. Yeah, there's a good reason to respect someone. =P
