NEW YORK - There is nothing wrong with an unpopular opinion.

Nor is there anything wrong with a subversive one, nor a crazy one. This country was founded on opinions that were deemed by the powers-that-were to be unpopular, subversive, and crazy. Dissent - even when that dissent strays from logic or humanity - is our life’s blood. But if you have one of those opinions, and you express it in public, honesty and self-respect require you to own up to it.

Unless you’re Rush Limbaugh.

On his daily radio soap opera, on August 15, Limbaugh said “Cindy Sheehan is just Bill Burkett. Her story is nothing more than forged documents, there's nothing about it that's real…” The complete transcript of the 860 words that surround those quotes can be found at the bottom of this entry.

Yet, apparently there was something so unpopular, so subversive, and so crazy about those remarks that he has found it necessary to deny he said them - even when there are recordings and transcripts of them - and to brand those who’ve claimed he said them as crackpots and distorters. More over, that amazing temple to himself, his website, has been scrubbed clean of all evidence of these particular remarks, and to ‘prove’ his claim that he never made the remarks in question on August 15, he has misdirected visitors to that site to transcripts and recordings of remarks he made on August 12.

Limbaugh is terrified. And he has reason to be.

I don't know what that's about, or who Limbaugh or Cindy Sheehan are (I'd see the wiki link, but I'm on my way to the vet to take Toby right now)...
But it just sounds like business as usual in politics to me :P

And speaking about wiki, I joined fur wiki, I hope I'm doing things right, I want to help, but I'd never used a wiki before :P

The Cliffs Notes version:

Rush Limbaugh: right-wing talk radio blowhard.

Cindy Sheehan: Angry mother whose son was killed in Iraq. She went to Bush's ranch in Crawford, TX, demanding he come out and speak to her, and a media circus has sprung up around her.

That was an excellent article. I'm finding myself developing a lot of respect for Keith Olbermann.

No one will ever turn against him, they will always beleive him, even though when I used to watch the Rush Limbaugh show and listen to his radio show, I heard him say OVER AND OVER things that were wrong, and I knew were wrong and the very next day he said a very short 3 second retraction under his breath for the previous days 4 hour rant.
Wrong, always wrong. And a drug abuser and hatemonger to boot. Good thing he's rich... or nobody'd like him.

Yeah, that's the other thing that made me angry, his trying to rewrite history like that. If you screw up and apologize, then fine, that's cool. But I have real issues with people that do wrong and won't own up to it. It shows me that they are dishonest, and makes me question the truthfulness of anything else they may say.

Thanks!

Thanks much!!! :) It worked wonderfully.

I tried to respond to you by mail a few times, but the gmail server rejected it: Response: '550 5.7.1 <doug.muth@gmail.com>... Relaying denied', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 550, Error Number: 0x800CCC79

Thought you should know, though this is likely another case of me not knowing any better when it comes to email stuffs.

Check your outbound (SMTP) host. It should not be set to mail.claws-and-paws.com, but rather to whatever your ISP uses.

I did...this error came after I set smtp to RoadRunner and tested messages to myself. It might have been a transient issue, though.

Pat Robertson pulled a similar thing after suggesting that we as a country should just go ahead and assassinate Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez.

He denied using the word "assassinate", even though he said it on national television. Then he admitted it and apologized later the same day!
