New Orleans, Part 2
Sep. 2nd, 2005 01:08 amSomeone raised a concern regarding me previous post about how odd it seemed of me, as someone who has been doing a lot of Bush bashing to suddenly say, "You should listen to the government". Newsflash: there are many different parts of our federal government, and they are NOT alike. While I'll take anything that comes from the White House with a grain of salt an entire saltlick, I will listen to what organizations like the National Weather Service have to say. Trying to imply that the NWS is anything like the White House (or even has a poitical agenda, for that matter) is just absurd.
So anyway, here's the latest interesting thing that I came across:
Welcome to the Newest Third World Country: America.
It's a different look on the situation, vis-a-vis the government's reaction to Katrina.
Good night all.

No, the Superdome's roof has not collapsed - two sections got blown off, but it is otherwise intact.
No, the busses didn't get shot at, the helicopters did - bussing continues apace to new destinations now that the Astrodome is full.
I can't keep reading an op-ed that doesn't have their facts straight.

Date: 2005-09-02 06:31 pm (UTC)Please don't say this was unavoidable. My father worked in the energy industry for 25 years. For the last 15 of those years he worked to alert oild and gas companies and the government to the fact that the nation's energy infrastructure was stretched as far as it could go. If a terrorist attack or a natural disaster occured it would fall apart. We can watch this happen now.
Dad was fired from his company for continuing to warn of the danger, but he was hired by a national lab and continued to work on emergency planning for the government. Of course Bush won the election in 2000 and all funding for his program and similar ones was cut. The writing was on the wall, it has been for over a decade, and this administration, for whatever reason chose to ignore it.
Oh yeah, my Dad got a call from the feds on Tuesday. They want to meet with him.
