I could think of ways to try to explain it, but it would be like someone fruitlessly trying to explain a magic trick and getting it completely wrong!

(chromakey, motion-control cameras, etc. might be possible, but highly unlikely... but so is the subject matter. Hmm... *does some websearching instead*)

Apparantly, it was *real*!

Other news sites may have carried an article, but they've been pulled down by now.

Yeah, I remember this. Was one of the most awkward things ever, but his holiness enjoyed it. Though whenever he does that one-armed wave, all I can imagine is "YOU DAMNED WHIPPERSNAPPERS AND YER DANCIN'. EHHH, I COULD DO THAT IF MY KNEES WERE STILL GOOD."

This was only 3-4 years ago. I posted a pic of it in LJ shortly after it happened. It's real, the Pope blessed breakdancing.

I can well imagine that perhaps the Pope assumed he was watching a style of dancing that originated with Indian fakirs or something. :} (Heck, for all I know, maybe it did, and then got picked up on by American street kids somehow.)

Well the pope was athletic i bet if he were in his younger years and saw folk in his day doing that he would want to do it.

Also B.B King did give him a Guitar . lol so its good to be the Pope

So my question is...

If Pope JPII allowed break dancers in to perform before him, how come a bunch of fursuiters haven't beseiged the Pope with lots of fuzzy antics, mayheim and cuddles??

Inquiring foxies wanna know.

*Hugs*

More then a few months ago I read an article on FARK.com about this. It was about those three break dancers who got an audience with the pope who showed his interest and appreciation for newer forms of art. All three dancers were blessed by the pope after the show.

Unfortunately I probably couldn’t find the article now but I’m glad you posted this because I only saw photo’s and it’s cool to see the video now :)

I think it's wonderful, and a testament to John Paul The Whatever that he welcomed these brilliant artists, without taint of popular prejudice against them (and gangsters and such). Admirable.
