Dude, the politicians aren't even being honest with themselves. A four star came over here and said we are participating in generational warfare and it could take as long as 25 years. The water treatment we've had on this base for the last 4 years was only supposed to last THREE MONTHS. The plastic containers heat to over 160 during the summer, foaming over the sides from all the dead bacteria; we pay contractors to come in, sometimes five times in a week, and vacuume all te sludge out of a drained container because there is no way of implementing scrapers.
Either we have the money to be out here and we use it (paying for better water treatment 2 years ago would have cost the same as the contractors visiting every week) or we pull the hell out. Everytime someone points that out, Washington convieniently finds another threat to chase. I wouldn't say fear is the only thing, but it is the biggest thing.
Back in my senior year of High school (2004), they posted some sort of Homeland Security posters that showed what was supposed to happen when we were at a specific terror alert color... Most of the time we were on yellow, and under the listing it said something to the effect of keeping school buildings locked, and staying inside at all times, etc... It was the most amazing amount of crap I've ever seen.
They also posted colored School emergency codes, some of which matched the terror alert codes: Green I think was a medical emergency, and classes weren't allowed to dismiss during a school code green... Red was like a bomb threat or soemthing lame, and I can't even remember what yellow was, or if there was even a yellow at all.
In the end, it was to make the parents of your upper-middle class scholastic jock of the year feel like thier kid is invincable.
Anyone besides me notice the connection of the color coded threat levels...and a gay pride flag? The more gay we become the more terrorists want to kill us? I dunno. Its early and Im hung over, my brain isnt thinking normally.
