I got a diagnosis for my foot pain. It went like this:

Me: The outside of my left foot hurts.
Dr. K: Do you always sit like that?
Me: Like what?
Dr. K: Cross legged
Me: Sometimes
Dr. K: That is putting pressure on the nerve that runs along the outside of your leg and causing pain in the foot. Don't do that. Put the outside of your left leg under the knee on a heating pad 2-3 times a day and take some Naproxen.

If that's all it is, that'll be a big relief. Now I just have to force myself not to cross my legs anymore. :-P

How do women get away with sitting like that all the time?

Our natural superiority, of course.* What puzzles me is how the Dalai Lama isn't completely crippled from this.

* Disclaimer: The foregoing sentence was a joke. It was only a joke. Had this been an actual statement of gender war, the word "tampon" might have figured into the sentence in some fashion, but it totally wasn't, and I feel the need to state that for the benefit of random -- or, for that matter, purposeful -- readers of Giza's blog, especially those willing to tolerate a footnote roughly five times as long as the actual comment.

Some of us have to! I'm always sitting on my feet, even in a chair. I recently broke my left ankle, yet I'm sitting on it as I type this. It's predominantly because I'm thin and I freeze easily, so I feel uncomfortable unless parts of my body are "overlapping". Or rapidly, purposelessly vibrating about. *kick kick kick*

"Doctor, it hurts when I do this!"

"Well then, don't do that."

You know what's funny? On the way in to work, it occured to me that when I started taking SEPTA for this new job, that I would sit in the seat with one leg crossed over the other, and they'd be pressed together since there isn't much space between the seats.

A couple of months of that... it's no wonder that the nerve is complaining.

I had a similar experience when the muscles leading to my right thumb started bothering me. I eventually realized that for the last year I'd been exclusively using two computers -- both laptops with trackpads and thumb-clickers! Changing to a USB mouse eased the problem, but it's taking a LONG time to get back to some semblance of normal.

I got a Marble Mouse because it helped relieve a problem where I overextend my arm thanks to furniture without mouse trays. But yeah, now my thumb has started to complain, and I'll have to watch it more.

Good news!

Well here's hoping that solves the foot problem. :)

*Hugs*

Nice to hear some good news. :) Now all we need to do is diffuse the impacted booger in your nose that's causing you dizzy spells and you're all clear. *chuckles* j/k

Get me a power drill, a bottle of vodka, and a mirror. I'll get that booger taken care of REAL quick!

Now I just have to force myself not to cross my legs anymore.

all that's needed is some lube and giza is open for business.

That kind of instant observational diagnosis reminds me of House. Which.. could be a good or a bad thing. :D

That's the norm for my doctor. He's very good at that sort of thing.

As far as I'm concerned, House is his evil twin.

I really like your doctor.

I cross my legs too, but I tend to put my foot on my other leg, not my leg. So no nerve problems, thankfully.

Just in case folks don't know...

Giza's Dr. K. is the self-same Dr. K. that shows up frequently in my Story Hours.

And he is a *bit* like Dr. House, only smarter and a touch more caring.

Unfortuantely, Dr. House can beat up Dr. K (http://www.googlefight.com/index.php?lang=en_GB&word1=dr.+house&word2=dr.+k). Probably by using that cane of his...

Wow, my doctor always told me to keep my legs open too. Although thinking back, it was my dentist.
