Earlier today, a plane crash claimed the life of Peter Tomarken, former host of the 1980s TV game show Press Your Luck:

He was a pilot and on his way to San Diego where he was to ferry a medical patient to UCLA. What a tragedy.

I loved that show as a kid.. I don't know why. I guess it was the fun aspect and the cute whammies ;) I saw the half hour special about the "press your luck" scandal.. which was nothing more than people being observant. It technically was the game show's fault; their light patterns weren't random at all... just a preset pattern!

Well, if you really look at it, it wasn't any more a scandal than the wheel on Wheel of Fortune or the Showcase Showdown wheel on The Price is Right. It was a matter of using your skill to try and get it to stop where you wanted it.
Yes, I liked the show, too. As a kit, I figured out the pattern fairly fast. Too bad I couldn't make it to play.

That's a total shame, indeed. Especially enroute to do something so important and for a good cause on behalf of someone else.
