Early in the evening last night, I managed to stumble the quarter mile to the local Rite Aid and pick up important things like: Gatorade, apple juice, and crackers. Oh, and NyQuil, too. I think the worst thing about this is just how exhausted it left me. Just standing up was an effort.

I did a shot of NyQuil last night and slept about 11 hours, which I think helped.

Today, I've been feeling better, and just had a bowl of soup. I was sweating profusely for awhile, then checked the thermostat and saw that it's 80(!) degrees in here. So I opened a window and turned on the fan. Of course, now the sounds of the road work right in front of my apartment are pouring in here. Of all the days to do road work... Hopefully these guys will finish up in a few hours and I'll be able to get some more napping in.

I've been doing the "pinch test" on my hand pretty regularly, and it doesn't look like I'm dehydrated, which is a good sign.

I drank some metamucil today, hopefully that'll get my digestive system back on track.

My dizziness has been a little worse while I've had this, but I wouldn't be surprised if that's just from low blood sugar, so I'm not too worried.

If anyone has any suggestions for things I should/should not eat while I recover, feel free to send them my way.

I've found just a little bit of oatmeal helps fill you up without getting you nausious. My mom always gave me toast and jelly when I was sick too :P

Might I ask exactly what the 'pinch test' is and does? o.O

Hold out your right hand, and pinch the skin on top of it with the left hand. When you let go, the skin should "bounce" right back.

If you're severely dehydrated, the skin will instead have the consistency of dough, and not return to its original shape right away. When that happens, it's IV time!

Neither am I, but I am a first aider with many, many years of exp., and you got the jist of it right. With some practice, you can tell just hydrated you are by doing the "pinch test", and catch it before you get to the IV stage :)

Just like what you're doing and what your mom tells you: lots of non-caffeinated fluids! -Ralkor, M.D., Ph.D.

Ah :) I also know that as the 'old' test. ;) The speed of the return also depends on your age and started to slow down naturally after middle age. ^^;

I was just going to say that! I'm a true believer -- eating a bowl right now, in fact!

Plus it keeps you regular. Yes, I'm *that* old.

Do you usually eat anything fried, or otherwise greasy? You might want to avoid it for a while.

Fever, Chills, could barely walk, and felt incredibly weak. Some massive stomach bug had circulated around work, and this thing knocked me out for several days.

Definately not fun. I pretty much had just stayed in bed most of those three days because I felt to miserable to do much of anything else. Soups work well, that's what I lived on during that episode, and water.

Take care,

Ginger ale is also good, because ginger is settling to the stomach. Or, if you have fresh ginger in the house, just put some boiled water in a cup and put in a few small slices of the fresh ginger to make tea. I once gave that to a friend who was throwing up EVERYTHING and told her to drink really small sips. It was the only thing she could keep down.

I hope you feel better soon?
