CAUCE's 5th Birthday
May. 9th, 2002 03:43 pmLooking back at CAUCE's first press release, it would seem that we turned 5 years old today! This is very significant to me, because I helped found this group 5 years ago, though it seems more like an eternity to me.
What a ride it's been, too. We've done everything from testifying before the Federal Trade Commission to proposing amendments to the junk fax law, to speaking out against poorly crafted legislation, and speaking out against the Direct Marketing Association, who wanted so very badly to flood us with all the spam/UCE you could eat.
I can remember how when we first formed, we were pretty much the only organization that tried to mobilize anti-spammers to get congress to deal with the spam problem through legal means. Now we other groups carrying the torch as well, like MAPS, SpamCon, SPEWS, SpamCop, SamSpade and The Spamhaus Project. There's also EuroCAUCE and "CAUCEstrailia", who continue the fight overseas.
Okay, I guess I'm done going nuts with all the hyperlinks now. :-) It still amazes me to see how much the anti-spam community has flourished in the last 5 years. I think it's a testament to the good side of human nature, that if given a good cause, that we will try to make things better...

1997: $0
1998: $0
1999: $0
2000: $0
2001: $0
I can assure you, bribing politicians is something that we are not capable of doing. :-)
