Ordering a pizza when the NSA is watching
May. 11th, 2006 11:01 amThe NSA wants to create a database of every call made in the USA. Obviously, this isn't so hot, because there are privacy concerns among those of us that aren't terrorists, and concerns that the information may be misused.
Here's an extreme example of how your personal information could be used against you. 5 years ago I'd say it was far fetched, but I'm not so sure about that anymore:
Clicky for a 5 minute flash movie
How long until the NSA wants access to our medical records too?
If you have high cholesterol, the terrorists have won!

How does going through the phone records of what is it, tens of millions of Americans, going to help national security again?

I was referring to Eschelon actually, since you decided to bring it up. Perhaps I should have clarified it in my original point.

Why yes, clearly going through phone records are the sole reason why there hasn't been another terrorist attack here. I'm so silly for wanting a more detailed answer.

Super. I'm willing to bet that not only were there warrants obtained, but that all the evidence was disclosed in trial, and hence became part of the public record. If a valid warrant has been obtained, then that is fine because there has been judicial oversight in the matter. Hey, even FISA warrants are okay, since there is is still judicial oversight.
I'm still not seeing how warrantless searches are a good thing, especially since warrants are pretty easy to obtain. And yes, I don't trust the Bush administration, especially after reading about abues of the PATRIOT act (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=patriot+act+abuses&btnG=Google+Search), which were told was necessary to protect us from the terrorists.
