I went out to The Adam's Mark last Sunday and took some pictures of its "deconstruction":

More pictures from tearing down the Adam's Mark can be found on my website here.

all thsi work to put in a target store...it's goign to take them forever to break even let aloen turn profit, i just dont see the need to go through all this.....

Thsi is really rather sad to see, i mean we used to be in there.... I dont think i've ever been in a building that was demolished and no longer standing after, until now

I had gone to a few Phillies games at the Veteran Stadium before it imploded. It's now parking lot but for a while there was this vast expanse of rubble that was pretty cool to see.

Seats from the stadium sold as mementos for a hell of a lot, iirc...

Its always sad when a building is demolished when you have good memories of it...

Coincidentially I have stood on a building that was demolished and is still standing

I mean, they demolished a few floors after an earthquake damaged it; they were going to demolish it alltogether but instead they just chopped off the top 2 floors ;P

This is it when after they cleaned up, when they thought they were going to demolish it

If the hotel was lost for something of more significance, like a hospital. Would be easyer to understand.
But a target ? is just wrong.

Are they going to blow it up or just tear it to pieces ?

garr !

... and the elevators probably work faster now than they ever have before, too.

To comment on one comment you made that the fact the elevator shafts are still intact. From what I saw of recent buildings being built here in Sheffield that are now almost finished, one of the first things completed were those shafts so its highly likely they are a key structural point. :)

And next the CDC moves in and quarantines the rubble....

As if traffic in my town isn't already bad enough!

(And I think what you just described is the EPA's job, BTW)

Well I know the CDC does establish quarantine stations at airports. I'm assuming they would have a field-day with the old AC building :P

AFAIK, the CDC handles diseases. When it comes to environmental contaminants (oil spills, etc.), I'm pretty sure that's the EPA's bag.

Though I could imagine both orgs fighting over who gets to clean up the Adam's Mark. That'd be fun to watch!

I didn't leave anything behind, but I think I see Kage in the chairman's suite? Maybe someone should TELL him?

Anyone know why they're wasting so much time and money demolishing it this way, instead of just doing a controlled implosion? You'd expect the latter to be cheaper; heck there aren't even any immediately neighboring structures to worry about!

You want to take bets that the folks who showed up at the Adam's Mark expecting the con was still there, will show up there again *this* year, thinking last year was just a fluke?
