Couple Arrested In Baltimore Asking For Directions

Story by thewbalchannel.com

Baltimore City police arrested a Virginia couple over the weekend after they asked an officer for directions.

WBAL-TV 11 News I-Team reporter David Collins said Joshua Kelly and Llara Brook, of Chantilly, Va., got lost leaving an Orioles game on Saturday. Collins reported a city officer arrested them for trespassing on a public street while they were asking for directions .

"In jail for eight hours -- sleeping on a concrete floor next to a toilet," Kelly said.

"It was a nightmare," Brook said. "I was in there thinking I was just dreaming and waiting to wake up."

Collins reported it was a nightmare ending to a nearly perfect day. He said the couple went to a company picnic and watched the Orioles beat Kansas City. It was their first trip to Camden Yards and asked two people for directions to Interstate 95 South when they left.

Collins said somehow they ended up in the Cherry Hill section of south Baltimore. Hopelessly lost, relief melted away concerns after they spotted a police vehicle.

"I said, 'Thank goodness, could you please get us to 95?" Kelly said.

"The first thing that she said to us was no -- you just ran that stop sign, pull over," Brook said. "It wasn't a big deal. We'll pay the stop sign violation, but can we have directions?"

"What she said was 'You found your own way in here, you can find your own way out.'" Kelly said.

I was thinking more in terms of a specific person who made the hiring decision.

That would be the third idiot on the left, in the forthcoming police lineup.

Every one of these incidents makes me want to find one of those Republican idiots who keeps saying "Those who have done nothing wrong have nothing to fear from the authorities" and kick them in the teeth. Or have them arrested or something.

Every police department in the country, and especially ones in big cities.

Hmph.

I second what [livejournal.com profile] kinkyturtle is saying.

I've known quite a few police officers in my life, and except for one, every single one of them was a "bad cop" in one way or another. Racist to the absolute core, imperialist to the extreme and enjoying a terminal case of testosterone poisoning.

That's why we've got www.copwatch.org and similar groups. There's one group out there who've started following patrols with video cameras, recording everything they do.

The one good cop I've ever known was Officer John Gang. He was such a hard-ass, he would arrest his own grandmother for jaywalking. I expect he's handing out tickets in Heaven as we speak.

Hmmm. I have to say, based on the article, it looks like a lawsuit waiting to happen. Then again, the police might have another side to the story. Not saying the article isn't right, just that there might be some details we don't know about.

However, if the account given in the article is correct, expect a lot of police officials trying to find a nice dark place to hide...

I'm pretty sure that this is just another example of people turning due to the pressures of their job. Its fully possible these police are normally nice people. But certian jobs have a lot of stress, stress that will change people's behavior. Those that thrive in those scenarios unfortunately can often be the bad apples.

Of course the bad ones will gravitate to jobs like this where they can get a power trip, or be in a position of power over a race they see as inferior. The good ones burn out and leave... or move up the chain and get a job out of the way.

Then the catch-22 becomes that with more and more bad apples, the resentment and anger towards police and law enforcement grows. This in turn makes things worse, meaning good people leave, get further burned out... endless cycle.

Its crazy.

LOL ^^()

Not quite like that... but honestly; whenever I see a group of police cars and I drive by I always feel a bit nervous, a bit uncomfy, even a bit scared; I know I'm not the only one to feel that way; it's like they're just waiting to take advantage of someone...

But drugs are bad. Due in part to them being illegal here, which encourages a black market trade where there is no regulation of quality control, you have no idea what you're getting. Plus, it gives rise to organized crime and the violence that goes with it.

Wow, the responses to this post show just about how much shit a decent cop gets to put up with. It's a low paying physically demanding dangerous job where a lot of the people on your own side don't like you, go figure the ethics of those left in the force are diminishing.

And ANYONE who thinks American cops are more corrupt and thinks living in another country is the answer hasn't been outside the country enough. There are bad ones, but I've known more than one or two good cops and I actually passed the test for NYPD when it was administered on Lejeune. Know why I'm not a cop? The pay was too low.

Keying in my two cents to say where is Paul Harvey with the "rest of the story?" I agree with above.. some side of the story just isn't being told here.
