Depending on your region, it could be run by someone of Chinese descent, Korean, Thai, Vietnamese, Laotian, etc. So they don't honor or repeat Japanese traditions. So before spouting a whole bunch of poorly-phrased Japanese, know who your chef actually is. :)
Personally, when I'm at a restaurant and someone tries to spit out some tongue that is obviously not native or trained to them, and pretend to act in a certain way that is also not trained or native to them, they just come off as pompous and showy. :)

That's interesting, because I'd think the opposite. Someone trying to speak another language would be interpreted by me that they're taking some time and effort to try and learn about another culture, which would reflect well on them. (All IMHO, of course.)
