Let me count the ways:

  • 1 shot of xylocaine from Dr. K
  • 1 shot for cortisone from Dr. K
  • 10 shots of alcohol from Dr. G
  • 2 shots of cortisone from Dr. G.

That's 14 shots in total since last May. Oh yeah, HURT ME MORE!

So anyway, I saw Dr. G again this morning. We got the results from my latest MRI, and nothing unusual was turned up. He did some more tests on my foot, mostly pulling on my toes and the like, none of which elicited any pain. This ruled out tendonitis and some other disorder, since I have a full range of motion with my foot.

I was given another shot of cortisone in the foot, and I'll be back next week so I can get an orthotic made for my foot. We also discussed why the alcohol injections did not kill off the nerve, and one theory we came up with is that since I am younger than the typical neuroma patient, it's entirely possible that the nerve may have grown back faster simply due to my age. Fun. We also discussed other ways of killing off the nerve, and one suggestion was salt water(!) injections in the foot. Hmm.

And, here's a link I saw from [livejournal.com profile] technomom's LJ:

15 Answers to Creationist Nonsense

It's good reading, as I never cared for what I perceive as mindless drivel from overly relgious people, "God created this world, science is crap, yada yada yada", and its latest incarnation, "Intelligent Design". They teach that crap in school and we wonder why our educational system is fscked.

I'll shut up now.

Heh, read Douglas Adams` Salmon of Doubt; the guy held some very intelligent [and strong] views come religion. And he was brought up to be religious. *g*

Dr. K?

Is that Kage's new fetish or something?

Dr. K != Kage

Dr. K is the physician that both Kage and myself see. Since Kage is also a doctor (Doctorate of Organic Chemistry), there's a sort of "Dr. vs Dr." rivally there. Naturally, Kage tells stories about this. :-) You can buy his 2001 tape here (http://www.unclekage.com/tapes.html).

Murrr. Good link. I also recommend www.infidels.org --it's a great jumping point for all manner of information and discussion regarding the age old battle of religion against reality.

I hope your foot gets better. I suffer from all kinds of physical pain that I don't usually like to talk about. To me, it sounds like they're putting those alcohol shots in the wrong place.

Check out Penn & Teller's new show "Bullshit!" on Showtime tomorrow for a look at this very same topic. Its a fun show based on the premise that you can't say someone is lying on TV without risking a libel suit, but you can call it "bullshit" and use other bad words in describing the perpetrator. A wonderful concept that works perfectly.

I especially liked the extra touch they used in their phony doctors episode of the flock of ducks waddling around behind them on their set. They never reacted to them, they never mentioned them, they never even looked at them... But the meaning was clear: What a bunch of quacks! :)
