Update: 7:35pm
As of approximately 6:30pm on Tuesday, July 11, Verizon has informed us that they have resolved the ADSL outage. We are continuing to investigate the root causes of this event, but service has been restored to all circuits on the ATM platform, which include any ATM PVCs and all ADSL circuits.

Well, having DSL back is good. But not knowing the root cause kinda troubles me. We'll see what comes of this!

I thought the root cause was a fiber cut? Given that was the first thing that happened, and things were fine before.. that'd be my guess...

Glad to see you back online, though. When my DSL dies I have to do 1xRTT through my celphone. PAIN!

Changed my reply, seeing as how the fiber cut seemed to be only the first of the problems.

Here's what I think: Sunspot activity bent some photons. Bent photons at high speed, let alone light speed, can easily break fiber.

The ones that made it thru damaged the OC-12 card when they smacked into it.

There.

I work for those people, and we never know why things happen, unless it's something really interesting, like a landslide, or the CO being ventilated with gunfire.

We just switched from verizon to Roadrunner for everything. I got sick of Verizon calling us almost every night asking us to switch to DSL from Roadrunner, even though I told them every time we were NOT switching. So I finally called Roadrunner and said, "Give me you all-in-one package with phone, Internet and cable." We're now saving almost $40 a month and I can call Canada withuot it costing extra.

How to deal with telemarketers

Step 1) Get a houseguest who speaks a foreign language. In my case, I used [livejournal.com profile] tailen.

Step 2) Have them answer the phone and start speaking in said foreign language, thus confusing the sales person.

Step 3) ???

Step 4) PROFIT!
