Friending/defriending guidelines
Aug. 1st, 2006 05:28 pmI've seen people making "friends policy" type posts to their LJs in the past. I've wanted to do something like that for awhile, but every time I started to write such a post, I'd feel pretentious. To me, it was kinda like saying, "You must be THIS cool to be my friend", and that made me feel rather uncomfortable.
So, I figured I would post "guidelines" instead. Guidelines aren't as strict as policies in that they don't always have to be followed. And anyone who knows me reasonably well knows that, like most humans, I can be angry, stubborn, hypocritical, and/or a real jerk at times. That being said, here's a rough list of guidelines on why I might friend/defriend you:
If I friend you, it's likely for one of the following reasons:
If you find yourself friended by me, you are under NO obligation to friend me back.
If you want to friend me, that is fine. Feel free to drop a note on my LJ telling me how you found my journal, if you like.
I don't have much in the way of defriending guidelines as I usually defriend people on a case by case basis.
Questions and comments are welcome.

- We know each other IRL or online.
- I met you briefly IRL or online and you made a good impression on me.
- One of my friends speaks highly of you.
- I've read your website or LJ and think you are cool/interesting.
