I haven't gotten a chance to write about last weekend yet, so I figured now would be a good time. Early on Saturday morning, [livejournal.com profile] unclekage and I headed out to Anthrocon's storage locker in Pittsburgh to do inventory on some supplies. On the way out, we stopped at Hoss's for lunch. The rest of the 5 hour drive to Pittsburgh went pretty quickly, as I slept for a good chunk of the drive. :-)

Upon arriving in Pittsburgh we want to the storage locker and began the process of emptying storage containers to see what was in them. We had originally planned for this to take several hours, but because our staff and volunteers did such an awesome job of packing things up at the end of Anthrocon 2006, it took more like 1 hour.

We headed over to the OMNI and grabbed a room (yay for room night credits!) and decided what to do with the rest of the evening. Since the Dorsai Irregulars were in town for Confluence 2006, we decided to pay them a visit. When we arrived at the hotel, they had not yet spotted us so we snuck into the bar and asked an employee call the DI in to deal with "two guys who were drunk and disorderly". Hilarity ensued.

We then spent a few hours hanging out at the con, stopping by both the Con Suite and the Dorsai's room party before returning to the OMNI around midnight.

After dropping by the Westin for breakfast on Sunday morning, we stopped by the Westing Pennsylvania National Wild Animal Orphanage and I proceeded to take many pictures of the cats there.

Some pictures of the cats:

One of their "toys", a bowling ball:

I could definitely go for more weekends like this.

Oh, Giza!, you lucky thing, you! Very few people get close enough to photograph the texture of a big cat's nose-leather without becoming part of the menu!

While I respect their power, and admire their grace and beauty, forgive me for going all schmoopy and gushing KITTIES!!!

It was a wonderful surprise seeing you guys at 'Fluence -- and I see that you've even managed to include in your report a leather-clad photo of me that doesn't look too horrific .... ;]

I don't care about the cats... I want to know what story Steve is telling... something about rabbits.. or satellite dishes.. or Prince Charles... hmm..

It's the utterly non-pc but funny one about the kid who is only a head ... Ask Sgt Steve to tell it in person, it's better that way ....

Ask me at Conclave. It's my favorite shaggy dog (well, shaggy kid) story.

... it took more like 1 hour.

Oh thank God. When I heard you and Kage were headed out there to check the unit, I did have a brief moment of panic: "OMG OMG I hope the way I packed makes sense!"

The volunteers who joined us Monday for the load-out and storage packing put in a hell of a lot of work, applause to all of them!

Well that sounds like fun :). I'm glad inventory didn't take all that long too, considering how much time and work you folks put into getting it there in the first place.

cute pics too :)
