Remember those FEMA tailers for people who were displayed from New Orleans by Katrina?

They're carcinogenic.

Yeah, that's amazing. I'd heard about that. They've been making these trailers for what? Thirty or more years? And they switched to a material like that which is toxic!? Formaldehyde (sp) insulation has been discouraged and possibly banned for use in houses since the 1960s-1970s when it was found that it potentially caused health problems. So why now, did anyone think the insulation would be any safer for use in trailers?

This is straight from the EPAs own website! Talk about one branch of government not talking with another...

Talk about a serious slap in the face... First you lose your home, the government takes forever to respond and then your provided shelter is caricogenic. X_x; I'm almost at a loss for words.

The cynical side of me says that the races involved (victims and FEMA employees) is playing a part. :-(

And the worst yet, our tax dollars are paying for all of this. I'm not talking about the homes in general - I see no problem with that. I'm talking about the defective units. And now we will likely have to pay to replace all the units, and for testing of each of the units that are defective.

The company responsible for supplying these should have to pay for removal and replacement of proper units.

Wouldn't it have been far cheaper just to get the correct units with the proper insulation in place the first time?

Another ploy by the government to kill the black man

I know (at least I hope...) you're being sarcastic.

TRYING to kill "the black man"? if out government really wanted to do that, they would have put something in the water by now...

It's more like "how can I line my pockets with even more money from this contract? Oh, I know, I'll let them use dirt-cheap banned materials in return for some kickbacks."

The poor ALWAYS get screwed so the rich can get richer. Now, why do we so often see poor==black (or hispanic, etc..)

Well, now that IS the government's fault, or at least due to their inaction.

Blame "THE MAN"

It's a case of bad morale. When a group is historically enslaved, then freed but legally discriminated against, then given "equal rights" but still oppressed, then finally given a fair share, an interesting thing happens:

They lose their self-esteem. That group gets so used to getting grief from the majority that they start to blame the majority for ALL of their problems, even the ones they cause. It's apathy and projection, plain and simple.

Don't get me wrong, it's not just blacks that do this. It's all minorities. And it's never the majority of any minority. It's just the most vocal, whiny ones we hear.

Y'know, I have no love for most government agencies, but I really think people need to BTFU off of FEMA.

Yeah, yeah, yeah...they're a beauracracy filled with idiots. Well DUH?!? Know any company or agency that isn't?

FEMA got handed the biggest shit sandwich this nation has ever seen, people are shoving skewers in their ass left and right, and yet they're still trying.

And now they find out some low-level bean-counter who thought they'd got a GREAT deal on a butt-ton of EMERGENCY SHELTERS BOUGHT AT THE LAST FRIGGIN SECOND OF A NATIONAL DISASTER might have a little too much formaldehyde in them.

Open the door.

Open the windows.

Vent the trailer that's been sitting in the hot, southern sun for a few years while COMPLETELY SEALED.

I am fricking sick and tired of the republicans trying to screw us out of every single penny, but I am EQUALLY sick and fucking tired of the MOONBAT DEMOCRATS trying to swaddle us in helmets and padding at every fucking turn.

Idiots.

So start ripping the toxic insulation out of those trailers. Better wear a gas mask - the toxin doesn't stop coming just because you vented an enclosure. You have to get rid of the source.

Maybe we should stop relying on low-level bean counters to get us deals on products with banned materials -- or maybe we should start listening when they tell the high-level bean counters that these products have banned materials in them.

Stop throwing insults and go do something.

I never knew that FEMA had tailers before. Do they air drop them in to repair ripped stitching? I wonder what they have in their backpack? A serger? ;x)

I think they should had let victims of the "natural disaster" waiting longer without any sort of shelter till someone officially decides that the trailers that are "already" sold for people to use and sleep in, are actually suitable to human use.

this is not a fema isue, but a entire goverment issue. Fema is just a branch, the problem goes all the way down to the roots !
