Fun with modems!
Apr. 6th, 2003 09:34 pmFor those who don't know, I am currently on dialup. The place where I work has a fractional (12x64kbps channels) T1, and I don't do much at home other than e-mail and chatting with friends, so dialup is plenty fine for me.
That being the case, I configure my modem with great care, so as to not have sporadic line noise cause problems with my sessions. I actually went to the US Robotics website and downloaded their PDF that had all of the AT commands for their modems so I could write my own init string.
And here's the proof:
Yes, that's roughly 46 and a half DAYS that I kept my modem online without being disconnected. Amazingly enough, my ISP never questioned me about that. However, when I called the phone company in December with a question about my bill, they must have noticed, as the lady on the other end of the phone said, "um... I see you like to talk on the phone a lot?". Well, I don't, but my modem sure does! :-)
