The maintenance guy just swung by and confirmed that yes, my toilet is pushing up the daisies, and it's time for a new unit from the plumber.

At least I don't have to worry about further flooding now.

Good luck getting a good toilet, and not one of those "low flow" ones that you need to flush four or five times to get a good load down.

I have real toilets where I love... And I love them.

I won't sneeze at a new toilet if they want to put one in, but what you describe sounds like $20 in parts from the hardware store and two hours or less for a good handyman.

Unless the porcelain is busted, that is.
