Maybe it's just me, but I was one of those who just never wanted to watch the Faces of Death videos, etc. Visible death is not interesting to me. *shrug* It's not even so much that it bothers me, I just don't understand people's interest in it.
I just want to desensitize myself. There's a lot of sick stuff out there. People are being brutally killed in other countries, as well as our own, on a daily basis.
Did I tell you the story about a lady down here who got squished by a SEPTA bus once? Her guts were all over the street.
The way I see it, some day I am going to stumble on to a very traumatic situation. I want to be desensitized to that, so that I can think and act rationally, and not panic. Panic is what makes people do stupid things.
But if you succeed in desensitizing yourself, you might become a Republican drone. Liberals have heart—when they see guts all over the place they still feel disgusted, but they are not overwhelmed and unable to act. There are other ways to overcome panic besides becoming insensitive.
Hmm, true, problem is, I was witness to that kind of trauma. I did freak out, but forced desensitizing is not so much a pleasant option in order to not freak out.
