Well, Moore is kinda far to the left... but I think Phelps is even further to the right.

That's less political slant than religious fanaticism.

That's from The Awful Truth, I think, or his previous show. We've got the first season on VHS. It was back when he was more of a guerilla filmmaker than a political cudgel.

I so was waiting for the A-team theme song to play when he announced the gay team. :xD

I remember hearing about this way back when. Didn't know they had a video of it.

... You know, up to now, I think I had always assumed that this sort of protest didn't really exist, that it was all just an exaggerated cliche that couldn't possibly exist and be meant seriously in the real world...
Yet somehow, it's the Muslims that are the world's bad guys... Go figure.

Every time the subject of Phelps comes up, I bring out this gem.

I read it back in the mid 90's shortly after it became public. It disturbed me for days.

So without further ado, I bring you Addicted to Hate.

Whoa. Thanks. o_O *reads*

Also, say, would you happen to be the same Kovu Cougar from the TLK Pride list all those years back?

Most likely. I've been using the name (minus the Coguar) since 1995 or so, and was on tlk-l... I take it we know each other?

Blargh. I had to give up halfway through that text. >.< This guy seriously sounds like a clinical case with a big lawyer smile on top. I'll admit to being scared that guys like that exist and are free to roam.

And, I don't know if I would call it knowing each other -- we were on the same mailing lists, and probably got a chance to exchange a few words. I remember you as a nice, responsible dude, but I think that's about all I got to learn about you. :)

I'll vouch for [livejournal.com profile] kovucougar, whom I've known since about 2000 or so.

You should come to Anthrocon someyear so that you can meet him. :-)

I haven't been to Anthrocon in a couple of years now, and now I live on the West coast! *heh*

Yes, actually I think it was you who invited me onto one of those mailing-lists where I got to know him. :)

And I do want to come to AC one of these years. Don't know when will be reasonably feasible though. But we'll see! :)

I didn't click on the video, embedded youtube videos seem to make my firefox crash randomly

But I'm pretty sure I've seen that (and have it on DVD thanks to Shen); it should be from the Awful Truth. A pretty spiffy show :)

Hilarity, once I get past my urge to climb through the screen and strangle that horrible, hateful asshole Phelps. How dare he talk about "sanity"!

I saw that awhile back, Michael Moore's Awful Truth show was an absolute riot!

I think it's great that he picks controversial subjects and just talks open and honestly about them.

In another episode of Awful Truth, he had a bunch of guys with voiceboxes sing Merry Xmas in front of Philip Morris headquarters.

I liked his other movies too.

Heehee. "Oh, mercy!"

I never could get over the amount of hubris it takes to preach that "God is love. God loves all mankind...except those people that I don't like. He hates them."

Actually, my understanding of Phelps is that he thinks god hates EVERYONE.

Why he's singling out the gays though, I am unclear on.

LOL! Is there room for one more?

God, free speech can be a fucking scary thing. The funny thing is, they keep forgetting that... hell only exists for those people who BELIEVE in it.
