I won't quote the entire thing here, but the author makes a case for a view I happen to share, which is that hate speech should be fought with more speech, not censorship.
Those of you who have been on the net long enough to remember Ernst Zundel and the Jewish group that tried to have his website taken down will know why it can be very difficult to censor some kinds of speech. (And yes, I still think Ernst is a whackjob)

My understanding is that the defendent crossed the line. She went from saying, "this person ripped me off" to "this person is a scam artist and rips people off". The second is a much different accusation to be made there.
And not showing up for the trial was kinda foolish, too. :-/
