From http://www.cnn.com/2003/ALLPOLITICS/04/22/santorum.gays/index.html

"If the Supreme Court says that you have the right to consensual (gay) sex within your home, then you have the right to bigamy, you have the right to polygamy, you have the right to incest, you have the right to adultery. You have the right to anything," Santorum said in the AP interview, which was published Monday.

I intend to have the last laugh, though. Sen. Santorum represents my state (Pennsylvania). Guess who isn't getting my vote this November?

Even more interesting is a quote near the end of the article from the Family Research Council. They are a lovely conservative group that advocates things like um, exterminating homosexuals.

Great political move Senator. Er, can I call you Rick? Great move, Rick.

I think I love the "gays have shorter life spans" argument the best. The arguments are so numerous against that, it's just such a mix of hilarious/horrible. I saw some stupid woman from a similar group argue that there was nothing wrong with his statement and all this press was a "big gay consiparcy," I think it was Concerned Women for American Families or something. The guy from Log Cabin Republicans blew her out of the water in the debate...and who says there are no good republicans?

Wait, hey, it's the same group mentioned in the article! I love that she says it with 100% backing for all the implications while even Rick Santorum is wise enough to step back and claim it was taken out of context, etc.

I just printed out that article and posted it on the Gay/Straight Alliance messageboard here at school. He isn't getting my vote either. He's a disgrace.

It took long enough to see this show up in my LJ. I'd've thought everyone'd freak out about it way sooner.

The quote above isn't even the worst one. That's just inexplicable. Personally, I like:

"I have no problem with homosexuality – I have a problem with homosexual acts."

Howard Kurtz said it best in the Washington Post...

"Boy, that oughta make everyone feel better. Kind of like saying you have no problem with disabled folks, it's just those blasted wheelchairs.

"Santorum has "no problem" with gays – some of his best friends, etc. – but believes they have no constitutional right to engage in consensual activity, the way that heterosexuals do?

"In other words, he has no problem with gays except for the sexual behavior they engage in. He thinks it should be illegal.

"He would no more grant gays legal protection for consensual sex than he would those who engage in incest.

"Keep in mind, this isn't one of those tricky public-policy conundrums – like gays in the military or gays in the Boy Scouts or whether gays should be protected against workplace discrimination – that involve other people and institutions. It's about what gay people do in the privacy of their home."

>"I have no problem with homosexuality – I have a problem with homosexual acts."

Yeah, I remember that line. The doublespeak in it reminded me a lot of when conservatives talk about "freedom of religion", which (sadly) usually means "freedom of MY religion".

C'mon, it's time to go hang the Ten Commandments up in some public school somewhere!

His whole thing is just pretty fucking stupid, I mean, this guy needs to fall off a cliff and die, but in particular I love "Monogamous relationships." Yes, apparently in Rick Santorum's little world, heterosexual people are only capable of breeding in twos. That just makes me laugh right there...and most of this I take fairly seriously.

And where have I missed all these homosexuals who go around not having sex with anyone? Oh, that's right, they're typically the ones that kill themselves. Bah.

I never understand why religious people hate gays. They are one group that is guaranteed to NEVER HAVE AN ABORTION!

You'd think they would be natural allies!

Yup. Its the same reason many gays didn't want Bush in office. He's a bigot.

Another friend of mine point this same thing out to me. It never ceases to amaze me the lengths that people go to to cover their own asses, I find it terrbily funny that and in a way quite sick what he has said. I don't care who he is or how he got in office, it only proves my point further that humans will follow anyone who looks reasonable in a suit. I am refering to people as the general mass not the minority that actually think.
