Aqua Teen Hunger Force Shuts Down Boston:

Apparently the "suspicious devices" found in Boston were advertisements for the Aqua Teen Hunger Force. (not) surprisingly, local law enforcement flipped out, thought they were bombs, and shut down the highway while removing them.

We're talking batteries and LED lights, people. How can you possibly confuse that with a bomb? How can you not know who Ignignot is? Christ, I don't watch TV, and even I know who he is.

It takes a special kind of person to confuse an ad for a bomb

You think that's bad-- here in Chicago we have these mysterious devices along the sides of the highways. They're large and flat, with words and images representing products and services on them, and they apparently contain sophisticated electronics, because some of them light up at night. I think terrorists must have put them there, and I'm frightened.

I'm actually more disturbed by Fox's characterization of its other two 'top stories' than by this one.

Your surprised that Fox would misprioritize news? :)

D'oh! The stupidity must have rubbed off on me and killed my ability to distinguish homophones.

My mate hangs around on /b and they went crazy over this. We tuned in to the local radio where there was some interesting discussion about it. o_O; I personally will have to wait and see for more exact facts about this before I decide. (Basicly, were permits got for the adverts as in the other cities?)

I don't know who it is... well, didn't

But I still wouldn't have confused it with a bomb =P

And you all are blown to bits. It could be possible that someone would use a popular image as a marker for a bomb. An unauthorized/unidentified battery powered object strategically placed around the downtown of a major city... I think they were right to take precautions. If they want to advertise on a scale like that, ask for permission from the city, not too hard.

security does not imply intelligence

You'd think the people in charge of reviewing "chatter" would occasionally read articles from popular sites like digg and boing boing. After all, they do capture lots of traffic from the major internet backbones.

This is just an extension of the "LED Throwie" that's been around for months now.

Wow... a flat board with glowing LEDs all over it. That kind of thing closely resembles... an LED sign. Give me a break.

Maybe so, at that. I saw a glowing clown face on one of those things once that scared the bejesus out of me.

Take a video of a Lite Brite commercial, stick the second to last scene in the last episode of The Prisoner** on it and voila! Boston!

**all the people running around and taking off in helicopters while 'Evacuate!' repeats over the loudspeakers.

Now that law enforcement has been desensitized to these things, the terrorists will use these things as a front to a real bomb! ;)

I can't believe that not ONE person in the Government even recognized the symbol, or put a stop to this madness before it got to this point.

Government employees aren't known for their brains.

I see this in action when I go to the Post Office.
