Have a Wii? Have a digital camera? Well, if you take a picture of the infrared emitter ("sensor bar") with a digital camera, you can actually see the emitters.

Check this out:

Mad props go to [livejournal.com profile] omnibahumut for pointing that out to me, and for bringing his Wii over. :-)

Never tried with a still camera, but I used to do that with all sorts of remotes with my old video cam

It works with Webcams too. In fact youc an build an IR illuminator to light yourself for webcam use, without having to shine lights in your eyes.

My videocam helped me to find out one side of my wii sensors were burnt out, and that I needed to get another.

I think I deserve a handicap seeing that I don't actually own a Wii.

That actually works with pretty much any CCD and any infra red light source. I used to play with my webcam all the time with a rather powerful tv remote.
I've also heard that the wee remote can be thrown off if you put an infra red light source in it's sensor range while in use. That might be fun to try just to mess with someone's head.
