Jerry Falwell, dead at 73

He was apparently found unconscious in his office earlier today. What's really troubling is that the leading medical theory in my office was, "auto-erotic asphyxiation".

If you don't know who Jerry Falwell is, http://www.fallwell.com/ is a good place to start. Yes, the misspelling of his last name is intentional.

Falwell's response to the criticism on that website? He attempted to abuse trademark law and take that domain name from the author. While he prevailed in the original court case (in Virginia), the Fourth Circuit court of appeals reversed that decision by a 3-0 vote.

Have fun answering to your god, Jerry.

I'm disappointed in Falwell, he could at least have made a spectacle of himself like Haggart did. I hope Pat will fix that.

This (http://www.fallwell.com/neighbor.html) one is especially interesting. Seems like the anti-gays (hey, if they can pejoratively call us "the gays", can't we push right back?) totally miss the romantic/emotional element of same-sex attraction. That argument is the Catholic argument, as well, and if you look at homosexuality as loveless sex acts, then maybe they think they have a point. But that is such a philistine way to look at it, and it's dead wrong. Something tells me the people who mindlessly repeat this Catholic talking point would feel a bit differently if they realized that we love our partners in the same way they love their husband or wife...

I'd like to wish everyone who dies a safe passage to heaven, but Jerry Falwell was a demon masquerading as a servant of God. He's not going to heaven, he's going back home to the devil. Just because you do a lot of good doesn't excuse you from also being horribly evil.

I have been appalled and embarrassed as a Christian to see what the Immoral Minority has made people think Xtians are supposed to behave. And living in the midwest had been hard because I'm smack dab in the middle of all these yahoos.

God is omnipotent. He appears like Jerry Garcia to me. She appears as the Goddess to my friends, as an elephant headed God to the Hindus, as Allah, as Thor...as an idea to my athiest friends. He/She/It is a celebration of love, acceptance and caring, not of hate, prejudice, and intolerance.

The book of MAtthew shows how Jesus ordained a gay couple. Jesus hung with outlaws and prostitutes. He didn't have much use for the "priests" as they made their "converts twice as fit for hell as" they were themselves.

And unfortunately, I believe that even Falwell will be going above as MY God is forgiving of everyone who asks for it. I just hope there is penance of some sort for his abhorant "teachings."
