I'm dutch =3 This 'video' is a spoof on the child's song 'zeg ken jij de mosselman' (would you happen to know the musselman? ore something..). Some bloody hardcore rubbage, they can't even leave kids' songs alone anymore.. I remember singing it alot at school.
We have the same song in English... at least, I've heard it. But it's definitely better in garbled Dutch. :)
The video plays off of a lot of traditional Dutch memes. Obviously there's the clothing (with the klompen -- wooden shoes!), but also the style of restaurant where he was eating, the street scene, the flat, sandy polder, the sign listing various types of fish... very Dutch.
You know I used to live in Rotterdam, right? I slept in a room next to a club that played EXACTLY that kind of music every weekend. The video sure took me back. :)
Not only that, but this was directly across the street. Next door was the "Hotel California", which was a whorehouse. I discovered that when I tried to rent a room there for some visiting friends. Oops!
Okay.. so this is the Dutch equivalent of "The Muffin Man": Oh, do you know the muffin man, The muffin man, the muffin man, Oh, do you know the muffin man, That lives on Drury Lane?
Oh, yes, I know the muffin man, The muffin man, the muffin man, Oh, yes, I know the muffin man, That lives on Drury Lane.
(It does go on, but it's much the same: "Now two of us know the muffin man..." for verse three, and "Now all us know the muffin man" for verse four, as I was taught it.)

Date: 2007-05-18 06:48 pm (UTC)Its a funny gabber version of an old song for children called `Zeg ken jij de Mosselman`
`Zeg ken jij de mosselman, de mosselman, de mosselman. Die woont in Scheveningen`
translation : `Do you know the mussel man, the mussel man, the mussel man. He lives in Scheveningen` (a place near Den Haag/The Hague)

Date: 2007-05-18 07:45 pm (UTC)Just some random happy hardcore about mussels and the musselman.
Tho I wonder why you digged this up, it's rather old (Fun tho).
The haircut was typical for "Gabbers" back then, shaved head and a trainingsjacket and pants.

The song is about the musselman who lives in Scheveningen, it's some folk tail as far as I know.
