On my way into work this morning, I noticed that both the streets and the R5 were practically empty. I didn't think much of it until I went down to street level for lunch. As soon as I arrived in the lobby, I saw a horde of... what I can only describe as living, bleeding, and mangled corpses banging on the glass and shoving themselves against the doors. I ran back up 6 flights of stairs and let my co-workers know ASAP! I got some help and we were able to shut down the elevators and block off the stairs with office furniture.

We don't have much in the way of food here, other than a few vending machines. There is a deli across the street, but that might as well be a million miles away right now. Electricity isn't a problem, as we have a backup generator on the roof and about 1,000 gallons of diesel fuel on site. We're kinda screwed as far as weapons go, however. As I write this, some of the other guys are scouring the utility closets and taking note of anything that can be improvised into a stabbing or bludgeoning weapon.

Last time I checked the view from the roof, there were a number of burglar alarms going off and some smoke rising from the direction of City Hall. There is NO police or military presence at this time. I also happened to have my HT with me and have been talking to other hams over what repeaters I can reach. The reports are all the same as here in the city.

For now, I'm going to stay put and hope that this is just a local outbreak that can be contained. As far as I can tell, Internet traffic has not been significantly affected. I'll keep updating as long as we have connectivity here and try to post some pictures later.

Its not good, they're here in Ann Arbor too. If headed home and then to the airport to steal a plane or helicopter. I'm only a novice pilot but I think with the situation I can get away with flying more then a single engine. Since you're cell phone is still working try to call me if you need Evac and I'll do my best to make a detour before I head up north. Good luck.

Lower Conshohocken has become a well-fortified ghetto of sorts...all these narrow one-way streets are finally good for something. Thank God my office rents space in what used to be the Lee Tire Factory. It survived them once before, it'll survive them again.

Network performance is degrading rapidly, watch your backbone links for trouble. As NOC teams are being eaten at less physically secure POPs, we're losing connectivity to various sites. Internet health report is still up, and it looks like Global Crossing was the first to drop. Our 10 gig DWDM links with Verizon have bounced twice, presumably there are a few COs that failed over to backup power between here and DC. BGP peerings with Sprintlink are shrinking, more routes are flowing to Level 3, and we can't get the Sprint NOC on the phone. Fast busy, trunk failure...

Half the families in my apartment complex either escaped (I hope) or were turned. We're using cars parked against the building to barricade the doors because they can go through the glass without any trouble.

Power's flaky but I've got some good UPSes in here backing the Network.

My partner's at the IBM research facility - they're locked down, too. A few of us have improvised incendiaries and we'll be making a run on their building to get them out. There are not a few ex-military in there with them, so I'm more worried about them shooting me than the zombies.

I'm able to hold out pretty well...Amazing how good a Saturn can hold out on these things.
